YH3 Run 1361, Miners’ Arms, Morley, 11th August 2008
Scribe – Jake the Peg
Twenty-nine of us arrived eagerly in Morley for what was billed as the most elderly de-flouring in hash history. 19th Hole was finally (or so she instested) to be laid at
the grand old age of 105 (runs, that is). Although salacious rumours have long abounded that 19th surrendered her flour bag whilst in her Junior hashing years, no evidence
of hares has yet been identified at the scene.
So, would 19th’s firstborn turn out to be an immaculate construction or an illegitimate run? Only time would tell.
The omens looked bad as 19th delivered the hare’s instructions, which took 15 minutes and involved the most convoluted set of hash hieroglyphics ever seen. Relief
broke out all round when we were finally set free amongst the darkest jungles of Leeds 27 and plunged into the depths of Daisy Hill.
Amazingly, the years of preparation, pelvic exercises and consumption of hashing trails must have had a beneficial effect - the trail actually went through some nice
countryside and interesting back ginnels as we chased round Churwell and meandered near the motorways. A nice wooded section led, ultimately, back across the M621 and into
the (aptly named) Morley Hole where (fortunately) was secreted a half-decent pub. Just what the midwife ordered.
Of course, it needed forceps to extract everyone from the beer stop, but one final push guided the pack firmly out of Morley Hole and delivered it safely into the
Miners’ Arms.
The birth was celebrated at the circle, as 19th was christened with her virgin hare’s down-down. Other notable recipients were Owl for completing 350 runs and Black
Widow for completing 321. Various other minor crimes were punished before we took a breather for chips, sausages and gravy.
Despite all this, the whole evening was eclipsed by the raffle, which still had me laughing several days later. It’s all to complicated to explain here, but if I
just say the word "Fireplace", the other 28 of you who were there will know exactly what I mean!
On On!
