Run No 1336 Sunday 17th Feb 2008. Venue: The Market Tavern,Knaresborough. Hares: Jack Tar and Wheels a.k.a. The Vindaloo Two after 2 trails on the bounce.. It was a run of two halves – Equatorial sunshine and Polar permafrost on a brisk Sunday morning graced by a near capacity pack of 34 hashers, all but 4 Yorkshire hashers – 12 Crates,Mary Poppins,Blind Pew and the bird from North Allerton from Harrogate, although there were several double agents, notably Talking Pussy and Reggie who have been transferred to YH3 on a Bosman After waiting for the train and latecomers to pitch up we were off. The weather was brisk but the pace of the runners was less brisk as several nursed hangovers from Wet Nix 60th birthday celebrations. Allegedly, you can all see Stick crooning Only 16 on You-tube-could a recording contract follow a la Kate Nash –with Wheels on 12 string anything is possible. The run, after a few streets found the river which even looked better than the Mersey in the sunshine. Around opening time we had a regroup outside a pub- 19th went in,hashers assuming she was getting the ale in – however it was a piss stop of the wrong sort.. It looked like a ringer for Mother Shiptons as the beer stop, but it was the pub across the bridge. New landlord and Wheels and Jack Tar proved they are really on a roll by buying the beer after buying the food last week – retirement must be great – loads of dosh. Short up hill to the on inn- got the guitars for the Cheeky Monkeys from Talking Pussy’s car. With the Viking hat on looked for like a Bjork tribute act,or was it Berk, make yer mind up folks. Food was good and Creamy excelled herself by breaking the £50 profit barrier with the raffle. Good girl Down Downs- outside in brilliant sunshine Hares – Jack Tar and Wheels Missing in Action – Matilda – red dress home alone at Grand Central,Leeds on way to Black Pudding and Henry and Ginger Root – went to the Grove instead of Foley’s bar (surely Ginger should get a Bafta soon for her services to Ballet in the Provinces over the years) Wet Nix – 60 years old,60 Yorkshire runs and later won raffle price with no 60 – coincidence of what The Dart Players – Clueless 180 runs,Ever Ready 360 runs Blind Pew – front running and hiding at the back of the circle. Stick – Rat pack look a like crooning Sweet 16 to his missus. Matilda – 250 runs in mega quick time Shaggy – various interruptions Wheels – I forget what for and if I have missed anyone else out it was because I was sober. Later the Cheeky Monkeys played the blues. Great trail, good pub, good beer, loads of runners- great to see Hashers like Owl back running Onon Ever Ready
