Run No 1217 at the Merry Monk Kirkstall 5 Feb 2006 by Lickitup and Tightfit
Double checked that run1217 from the Merry Monk was on 5 Feb. Last time I got to this venue a week early. Off the train at Headingley and the sad sight of Magnum in sackcloth and ashes standing amid the shattered ruins of his home? Not exactly. He’s building a giant reinforced garage to protect his and Twilight’s cars from the West Yorkshire police. There were a few new people , very welcome on the Yorkshire hash. Ladderman, 3rd rung, Longhose and HeadButt refugees from S Africa, and a pair from Wetherby with civilian names that a hash couldn’t better Wooky and Twink ( or something similar) while Auntie Rivet brought along little Tom(now growed up).
FD is the main hare (groan groan) but fortunately Tight Fit is around to keep her in check. Who am I kidding. Down the hill to Magnum’s Folly where he demonstrated his tool for us (so what’s new), which took a little time to get started. After that we pushed on under the rail track and off the edge of my geographical knowledge of Headingley. But we ran and walked and staggered for about 5miles I guess, and mostly the trail was well marked, especially the sections that were laid behind us. We had a play stop which should also have been a beer stop but the lady hare who had loaded a rucksack with drink told her co hare not to bother bringing it – guess who? Lots of fun on the kiddies swings etc except for the kiddies of course, and some very worried parents, and if you’re thinking of dating Rivet be warned, she finds it difficult to go down with big men in some situations, but fortunately only if they’re on a see saw. Lots of great trail after that including the dirtiest stream I have ever crossed, and I got a soaking thanks to playful little Flossie, then a long long uphill trudge to a real beer stop with crunchies and mars bars and twixes thankyou very much Moya. It must have been a mile and a half back to the pub even though Flossie took me on a short cut. Can I recommend that YH3 adopt the Clueless protocol used by Harrogate that the On Inn should be within 5 minutes of the final beer stop.
Good beer, tasty sarnies down downs for all the usual ---- hares newcomers etc , and for an old dog who has Groped his way through 250 trails. Shock and horror at the way above inflation rise in subs, but it’s still great value.
Back to Magnum and Twilights for some very good beer and CD memories of 2005 AGPU. Good trail, followed by too much temptation so Wetnix didn’t get her Sunday roast until Monday night!
